Cool Night

Good Morning, Gentle Readers! Or perhaps I should say afternoon.

Today's image is titled Moth Wings. I don't often try to use gold as a background color, and didn't try to use it by itself today. However, it was perfect against the oranges and reds, and just a hint of pink and green.

Well- I did manage to take notes on a whole chapter last night, and healthy fraction of a second. Toward the end, though, I was making a lot of mistakes with my writing and having difficulty concentrating. So I decided to call it a night, though I did think a lot about the stuff I had read.

I almost expected to see frost this morning! Not that it happened, but it was cool enough that I didn't try to get a light long-sleeved shirt. I almost didn't get up out of my nice warm nest either, though a few times I started to overheat until I fell back asleep again. Wood smoke has become a common smell around here now. I imagine my parents are happy they have their stove and a huge stack of firewood. I won't be too surprised if we really do see a dip in temperatures; My friend from Canada has already reported snow. She's not pleased about it either, but at least she has a better place to live in now than she did last winter.

Here comes the sun...

Good Morning, Gentle Readers!

Today's image is also a rerun of a picture I made in basic Paint, and is titled Ghost Cookie. I may remake this later on, but it is a nice virtual sweet for those of us who have to watch out for real sugar!

I got a bit of a surprise this morning; A truck with a crew of professional tree surgeons came by and started removing limbs. It really was a good idea: Some of those limbs were hanging very low, and weren't really healthy anyway. There are still a lot of clouds in the sky, but the sun is peeking through in places. If it doesn't rain, I'll try to grab a rake tomorrow. I might even do so this afternoon, if I can make the time between assignments. That may be a challenge; It won't take me long to whip up that short essay, but the longer paper is a different matter. It may not be that bad, though; Upon getting a second look at the assignment, I found that it was on stuff I had noted the living daylights out of. I'll just have to go back again and make sure I have everything properly cited.

Autumnal Musings

Good morning, Gentle Readers!

Today's image is Autumn Star. This is a re-run from last year, and is one of a series that I made for the seasons. I will want to look at the other holiday items I have stored, but as I said before, most of the others simply did not measure up.

Yay! I finally got finished with my note-taking. Some of it even makes sense! I also got a new note pad out; The one I've been using for my accounting class is fresh out of paper. That hand is starting to grow some muscle too. Now I just have to attend to that assignment. The geology items shouldn't be so hard, though I do have a large paper to write- formatted and properly cited, of course. I will need to invoke the Mighty Yellow Pad for that, I think!

The weather has been conducive to study, when I'm not wanting to sleep: Grey and damp-feeling outside. I suppose I ought to get busy with a rake when it dries out enough; The leaves on the ground have become noticeable, and unlike last year, we no longer have a power mower to just run over them and turn them into mulch. That's the breaks, and I really could stand the exercise.

School and Autumn ramblings

Good Morning, Gentle Readers!
Today's image is titled Wavery. I made it last night while testing a couple of filters together; I usually don't combine anything except maybe overlay and hard light. This time, I used another pair- Including one that tends to turn colors into something quite different.

Well, I did get most of the way through that one accounting chapter. Some of it even makes sense! I still have a way to go, but I'm optimistic about being able to finish today. I still have a busy day ahead of me, though, given some of the other tasks that have suddenly arisen.

During the past couple of weeks, acorns have been falling on the house. At times, it sounds almost like hail. A few times, it hit the vent cover- which is makes a loud 'Poing' sound. A few times it had my husband jumping for the ceiling! The cats weren't pleased about having their naps interrupted either. I confess, I would like to live somewhere just a bit quieter!

Dog Days and Doings

Good Morning, Gentle Readers!

Today's image is titled Golden Winged. I still haven't really figured out how to get a bird's wings spread effect to my satisfaction, but I did like what I saw of this. I even managed to create something like a metallic gold color- quite by accident and much to my surprise. It doesn't really have a sheen to it, of course- But I can decide what to do about that later.

The Dog Days of summer seem to be over, and the leaves are turning. We are now looking at rain and even possible storms, and the temperature will be just a bit on the chilly side tonight- at least, according to my standards. I don't mind; The chill will help discourage bugs, and it is great for cuddling with those you love.

Am I ever glad I did so much of my note-taking ahead of time! As it is, I'm going to be a bit rushed with some of the things I have to do: A small essay today, and a much larger one which is due a little bit afterwards. I also have to go look at a few of the links for the geology class. While so far I've seen little in geology that I haven't before, I have been noting stuff in case I needed specific words, names, or descriptions. I may even have to break out a new legal pad somewhere in the middle of these courses. I think some of my old college professors would be pleased that I have been taking so many notes, though.

Cooling Off

Good Morning, Gentle Readers!

Today's image is titled Fairy Wings. I wasn't exactly trying for fire when I made this, but I did add a deformation to the 'wings' before I added the other two objects. I considered adding another deformation, but decided against it after I tried it on for size and decided I didn't like that at all.

Yesterday, it was cool enough that I had to turn off the fans. The relative silence sure sounds strange after months of them humming in the background! I then even stayed mostly under the covers, which was nice. I haven't been well able to sleep without covers for some time, though during the height of summer I had no choice if I was to sleep at all.

Since I'm largely done with this block of classes, I have been looking over what I need for my next block. I found out that I was signed up for a different geology class, so I went to get my study materials for that while putting the original folder out of the way. I did run into something a little strange and a lot annoying; The downloads for a number of the chapters of the text either would hang up somewhere in the middle, or wouldn't even start at all. This will be a problem if I can't fix it before I need the book. Perhaps I ought to order a hardcopy textbook as well, but I have found that the electronic texts usually do what I want them to do.
